Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

I just bought tickets to see these guys at the Fillmore because The Fratellis are opening for them, but I hadn't ever heard of them before. Wondering what I was in for I crossed my fingers and hopped on my computer. They're awesome. With four albums, they've gone through a lot of musical changes, but ended up where they started (only a lot better). Their new album, Baby 81, is due to come out in May. Don't wait around with a vacant look in your eyes though. Try one of their other albums.

Frou Frou

Frou Frou is perhaps best known for their song "Let Go" being featured on the soundtrack of the movie Garden State. Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworth only made one album as Frou Frou, but that one album is amazing. Every song has a quiet intensity that carries you effortlessly across eleven impeccable songs. Both Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworth continued on solo projects after this, but none of that beats Frou Frou.

Nirvana

"No no!" you say. "I own Nevermind. I bought my copy as soon as it came out. I watched their unplugged videos. I'm a big Nirvana fan." Most people however, stop there. Why? I don't know. Their other most popular albums, Bleach and In Utero are considered dirtier and harder to bear than the "poppy" sound of Nevermind. It's not true. Every Nirvana album has a mix of lighter, catchy songs with harder, grungier tracks. So what did Nevermind make Nirvana so popular? Maybe nobody knows, but whatever the reason don't let it stop you from rushing out to the record store and loading up on Nirvana.

Albert Hammond Jr.

When I first heard that The Strokes's wacky rhythm guitarist was doing an album with another band I got pretty pissed. Who does he think he is? You can't beat The Strokes, but Albert Hammond Jr. (yes, son of the dude who did "It Never Rains In Southern California") can crank out a solid album. Okay, really solid. The songs feature Strokesesque guitar-licks with a little bit of a mellower mood. The guy is definitely really good. Just, please, please, don't leave The Strokes to die.
